Biography

Matthew’s¬†research applies the methods of prosopography, social network analysis, and close charter reading to the study of society and politics in the kingdom of the Scots in the central middle ages. He is the author of the forthcoming monograph, Social Networks and Lay Society in Medieval Scotland, and the editor of New Perspectives on Medieval Scotland, 1093-1286 (Woodbridge, 2011). He has written a number of articles and book chapters on various aspects of medieval Scottish history, including charters, ethnic identities, and political assemblies, and helped create the People of Medieval Scotland 1093-1314 database.
